Food diary Dec 25 2024 and thoughts

Woke up at about 6.30 am, meditated for 7 minutes and did some photobiomodulation for about 30 min, listening to a podcast interview with Dr Kevin Maki, which I thought was informative about dietary related risk factors. I went for a short walk (10 min) outside to get some sunlight. I was not so hungry, so I decided to have breakfast a bit later and instead went for a hot cacao drink with collagen and some stevia leaf powder and glycine. Breakfast at around 9.30 am consisted of about 30g of organic/natural whey protein, blueberries, half an avocado, 1 teaspoon of glycine, 10 grams of collagen, a pinch of ceylon cinnamon and half a cup of water,  a small peace of ginger,1/4 a teaspoon of stevia.  I had this in a bowl together with about 60 grams of walnuts and macadamianuts. About an hour later I had a small amount of oatmeal with a small amount of blueberries, mango, walnuts, pecans, cardamum, ceylon cinnamon and ginger followed by a cup of green matcha tea with cacao an...

Rediscovering Solitude in good ways

I feel that I am rediscovering solitude in good ways. Not complete solitude of course. But rather a balance of the solitude we all experience to various degrees, and the love and togetherness I once was deficient in. That is my family. I cherish them profoundly.  I also go through unpredictable transformations with regards to the perspective I cultivate. It is a necessary adaptation to be able to grow and improve. To be able to change perspective can be the one thing that changes your direction toward something that is needed for survival and sometimes thriving. Changing perspective requires courage. That, I have. Today I started my day after a night of light sleep. I think I might have undershot my caloric needs too much. Although I certainly have been diligent with protein intake. I may have overdone methyl donors. Liver and TMG, collagen in large amounts. Perhaps coupled with too high intake of lions mane. All in all resulted in something last night that gave me some good...

Day 2

This protocol is inspired by Siim Land's approach as of today. I wan't to utilise some of the benefits of an extended daily intermittent fasting time-window, while preserving muscle-mass and strength performance gains over time. I consider it like a diet. But some variant of it may perhaps be possible to sustain. I believe however that I do well on two meals a day and with a bigger first meal, although want to challenge this belief.   Day 2 of what you may ask? Well. I'm pivoting into a protocol that prioritises protein more. I want to be sufficient on energy macros (fat and carbohydrates), and be flexible and smart in how I time, distribute, in what order, etc with regard to my caloric needs. The protocol I am using, has elements of a protein modified fast. However I don't want to tank hormones by going too low in fat, so that is an example of a lower bound constraint I use. I adjust my carbohydrates, and fat according to the type of activity and the activity level I d...

More on TMG - Tri-Methyl-Glycine

Trimethylglycine (TMG) is metabolized in the liver through a process called demethylation, where the three methyl groups are removed to produce glycine. The demethylation of TMG is catalyzed by the enzyme betaine-homocysteine methyltransferase (BHMT), which uses the methyl groups from TMG to convert homocysteine to methionine. In addition to BHMT, TMG can also be metabolized by the enzyme flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO), which adds a hydroxyl group to the molecule to produce dimethylglycine (DMG). DMG can then be further metabolized to sarcosine and glycine through a process called glycine cleavage. The metabolism of TMG and its metabolites involves several enzymes and metabolic pathways, including the methionine cycle, the folate cycle, and the glycine cleavage system. These pathways play important roles in regulating the metabolism of amino acids, methylation reactions, and the detoxification of harmful substances in the body. It is important to note that the specific met...

Naringin from grape fruit and supplement regimen methods for modulating the dosing with TMG.

Note that while naringin is a (CYP) antagonist/inhibitor, TMG (Tri-Methyl-Glycine) is a (CYP) agonist supporting clearance of certain CYP-targeted substrates. Therefor. To mitigate overdosing. Using TMG is a good conjunct strategy. But to avoid a potential nullification or cancelation effect, one could be mindful of the timing of these supplements. Grape fruite consumption say in the morning smoothie. Note that you do not want to nullify the effect (I don't know if this is what may happen, but in theory it seems plausible), by using too much TMG. More on TMG here..  TMG blogpost Followed by avokado, berries, coffee and green tea and some cacao/dark chocolate will give a therapeutic effect of polyphenols. However the effects comes in two phases. The first phase is when digested in small intestine, absorption, which is maybe just 1% of the bioactives of the polyphenols. Next phase is from the colon and gut microbiom, several hours later, which will generate secondary benefici...

Grape fruit and naringin - A way to increase exposure to beneficial bioactives from foods.

Grape fruit contains an interesting polyphenol called naringin. Naringin , inhibits at least two enzymes in humans called CYP1A2 and  CYP3A4 . The use of this functional food method is to increase beneficial effects of bioactive in from you food and supplements or what you consume during the naringin-induced "open window" time-frame. So beware of what you expose yourself to. Avoid toxic doses of substances of all kinds and focus on foods and supplements with minimal if any side effects. My theory here is to go more with fruit plants than vegetables for this method. Also avoid combining with medication and drugs in particular (like statins etc.. see interaction table).  A good protocol would be to increase the activity of other low level toxicity plants like berries, avocado, olives, moderate amount of coffee etc. Also the timing may play a crucial role here, because of the delay of CYP-metabolism. You should aim to get your coffee and other strong CYP-dependent foods and bev...
