Chip on my shoulder

 I have a chip on my shoulder.

It's a two-sided coin.

On the one hand it drives me to always change things to the better and improve things.

I keep myself to a very high standard. Sometimes, perhaps, a bit too high.

I don't let myself, and sometimes others, to get away with substandard efforts when things can be done in a better way. And I tend to believe that things very frequently can be.

This leaves it marks in how I grow and to who I become and what I do.

I do however realise this has some drawbacks.


It may, push away other people who have a more relaxed "shoulder situation".

It may also, to some degree, hold me back when it comes to relaxing and letting things go.

And there is something to be said about the benefits of having the ability to let things go.

I am however aware of this and work to balance this trait by dedicating time for relaxation,

mindfulness in particular and parasympathetic activities.

Consciously training my self to be able to let things go and shift mental frames and narratives to adapt psychologically to a better outlook or attitude towards, myself, others and problematic situations.


People without a chip on their shoulder might not go the extra mile. But they may have an advantage of nurturing, stressrelief and self nurturing abilities. Simply enjoying their everyday life a bit more.

As with many antipodal characteristics like this there is often an equilibrium, a sweet spot, where things comes together optimally.

This sweet spot may or may not be a moving target.

So being aware of this dynamic is a good thing.

It may keep you in balance in your path trough life.

And doing so successfully will likely keep bring a better one.
